Quick Update: Fortune’s Shadow Out in Paperback

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all staying healthy and safe. What a year 2020 is turning out to be! I know I’ve found it difficult on many days to concentrate on reading, never mind writing. And yet both of these things are still helping me manage the challenges of this year.

So even though it feels odd to be promoting my work at this time, I thought I should let you know that my urban fantasy novel Fortune’s Shadow is finally available in paperback from Amazon. (It was a true joy to finally hold the proof copy in my hands!)

Or if you prefer an ebook from Kindle, Kobo, Apple, or other sources, you can find it here. (You can also request it from your library if they use Overdrive or CloudLibrary apps.)

Thank you to everyone who has already purchased it, read it, and left ratings and reviews. I’m honoured you put me on your reading list, and I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying it.

Work is slow on the sequel, but it’s going! I’ll be updating my progress on Book 2 over on my author site, suearcherwordsmith.com. Other than that, I expect to be quiet until I have the focused time to write more blog posts here.

How have you all been holding up? Do you have any books that that have been great reads for you during this time? I’d love to hear from you.

Take care,

Fortune’s Shadow Available for Pre-Order – Out April 26th!

It’s finally out! I can’t believe it. Fortune’s Shadow is available for preorder at ebook retailers and will be released on April 26th!

Is it for you? If you like the idea of reading about

  • An indie musician who’s trying to make it big
  • A magical wish gone sideways
  • A secret from the past
  • A small town full of fun characters
  • A race to save everyone from supernatural forces

Then I’d be honoured if you chose to buy my book and spend time with Jocelyn and all the other characters I have grown to love.

Here’s a universal book link to all the retailers currently carrying my story, including Kobo and Amazon:

For those of you who may be wondering, since fantasy books are often part of a series: it is a standalone story, and I’ve been told it has a good ending. 🙂 However the threads are there for future tales from the town of Bridgepoint, and I hope someday to publish more. So if you do end up reading my book and enjoying it, I would be very grateful if you could leave a rating or review or share the news with friends.

Also, a note about the future of this blog:

I know most of you started following to read some communication tips with a creative twist, and it’s turned into something very different lately. Thank you for continuing to read and support me throughout everything.

I’ve decided I want to focus on writing tips again here in future and leave my publishing mostly out of it, because the last thing I want to do is turn this into some kind of permanent sales blog.

So if you’d like to hear about my progress in writing my next book and get regular updates on that, including any details on my self-publishing journey, you can follow my personal blog: https://suearcherwordsmith.com/ Otherwise I plan to keep mention of future books to a minimum here.

So…I guess it’s time to send out the DBW bat signal again! Is there anything you’d like me to write about? Any writing or communication challenges you’re dealing with where you would love to get some advice written in a creative way? Any new words you’d like me to add to the Rogue Words Gallery? Please let me know in the comments, and I’ll attempt to create some new posts!

I hope this post finds you well. Stay safe, everyone.

(P.S. For those who are interested: I’ll be publishing Fortune’s Shadow as a print-on-demand book as well, and getting my own author copies to sell in person, but that’s going to take a while because of challenges in getting physical book proofs shipped out right now. For those who prefer paper, I’ll let you know when it comes out. Or feel free to contact me if you’re interested in getting a copy.)

Fortune’s Shadow – Cover Reveal!

Today’s a big day! (Well, at least for me.) I’m exactly two months away from publishing Fortune’s Shadow, and I couldn’t be more excited. My book baby will finally be out into the world on April 26th!

To celebrate, I’m sharing the absolutely stunning cover that Ravven has created for me. (If you ever need a book cover designed, I highly recommend her. She is amazing.)

Isn’t it incredible? I’ve been telling my friends on Twitter that I’d better make sure my words live up to it. 🙂 So I’ve been focusing my efforts this month on working through the excellent feedback I’ve received from my talented and highly supportive fiction editor Maggie Morris.

What’s next?

As soon as the editing is done, I’ll be creating an electronic version of my book in ePub (Kobo) and mobi (Kindle) formats so I can share my story with advance reviewers before the final proofreading and distribution. If you’re interested in becoming one of my ARC readers (and receiving a free copy in consideration for an honest review), please reach out to me, either through my contact page or comments below. I’m planning on sending out a few advance copies in March.

Here’s the current blurb describing my book, so you can see if it’s for you:

“You thought you could live without me…”

Jocelyn “Jinxy” Lancaster is having a horrible week. Her dream of becoming a famous indie musician is going nowhere, her day job in her tourist-friendly hometown of Bridgepoint is in danger of disappearing, and to top it all off, it’s almost the ten-year anniversary of her Mom’s death.

When her best friend Grace gives her a wish keeper to help change her luck, she decides she’s got nothing left to lose.

She’s wrong.

At first it seems like she’s on her way to getting everything she desires. Then the people close to her begin acting very strangely. She’s having trouble remembering things, and at night, she’s being haunted by dreams she can’t explain.

Then the best night of her life happens—and all hell breaks loose.

Now it’s up to Jocelyn to try and undo what she’s created and save her hometown from chaos and destruction. And maybe, if she’s very lucky, she can even save herself…

I’ll be sharing more with you on my adventures in book formatting and distribution as I get closer to my preorder release date (in the hope that I can help others with this process), but in the meantime, thanks so much for reading my post and supporting me as I go through my self-publishing journey!

I’m so excited!
